“I came to IPPMC due to a work comp related right shoulder injury. I had two shoulder surgeries for a torn bicep and rotator cuff. My pain continued to progress. I had to discontinue work for 20 months because of the increased shoulder pain. I was told there was no additional avenue for me to take for my shoulder and to hang up my gloves, those were the exact words they gave me. I was referred to IPPMC by my surgeon. IPPMC did a great job. I am back to full-time welding after I was told previously to find new avenues of work. I really appreciate the great job they did for me at IPPMC.”

“When I first came here I was in traumatic pain. I was seen by one of the team psychologists to help me with my pain. I was seen by Dr. Kowalkowski for interventional treatments which helped my neck pain. I am also involved in counseling which is helping deal with my pain. I was in traumatic pain last time I was in and was going to the emergency room. Instead, the team at IPPMC saw me immediately and treated my back and I am 80% better. I am still working with the whole team at IPPMC and am currently involved in their conditioning program. When I’m done I feel like I will be a brand new man. I have been to other pain clinics in the area and I would say by far this is #1”.

“I was running 8/10 pain over the last five years. Three and a half years ago I underwent a spinal decompression and last April I underwent a three level lumbar fusion due to progressive back pain. I continued to experience increased pain despite these two surgeries. I was unable to walk, I had no social life, no sex life, it was rough. There was no much I could do because of my pain. I was referred by my primary care to IPPMC due to my pain and I underwent a permanent placement of a spinal cord stimulator. Since then I am back to working in my shop, I have cut my pain medications in half and life is good and a lot better than what it was. I am very happy with my decision and so is my wife.”

“I was in a car accident in 2001 in which I fractured my neck and back. I had to wear a brace for three months. I have been dealing with pain since 2001. I lost my ability to walk far distances, driving a car for more than an hour, any type of physical activity effected me. In 2011 I had a motorcycle accident and broke my neck and upper back. I started a rehab program and I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. I was referred to a different pain clinic and all they did was inject me with multiple steroids. I felt like a pin cushion without relief. They ultimately labeled me as only wanting pain medications despite all they were offering is multiple injections. I explained that pain medications make me sick and that I didn’t want pain medications and wanted pain relief. She was told that after multiple procedures that there was nothing else they could do. They basically left me in pain. Ultimately I was referred to IPPMC. IPPMC really seemed to focus on my pain. They tied in mental health into this. All the doctors work as a team. I felt like I wasn’t coming in being labeled or judged. I feel IPPMC has addressed my pain rather than blew me off.”

"IPPMC has saved my life in more ways than one. I am more than thankful because I would have died a long time ago if it wasn't for the care and treatment I received at IPPMC. I am able to move around and do things that I haven't been able to done. Thank you IPPMC."

"Approximately a year ago I developed significant left sided facial pain. I received multiple referrals and opinions for my pain. I went to neurology in the Twin Cities, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester who did an extensive workup and my PCP. I was basically told nothing was wrong. I came to IPPMC thru one of their patients and after receiving a comprehensive evaluation Dr. K proceeded to treat me and diagnosed the problem. I can say the pain is gone after my first visit. I would recommend IPPMC to other patients."

"In 2013 I injured my shoulder girdle at work. Ultimately it left me with shoulder surgery. I kept on having significant muscle pain in my shoulder girdle that was resistant to care. I was seen by neurology, pain management, orthopedics, PCP, physical therapy, PM&R and sent to a shoulder specialist and I continued to have pain. This is the first time I have been free of my shoulder pain since 2013. I can now play with my son and I could not do that before. Thank you IPPMC for your help."

"I've been to at least ten doctors over the last five years for my back and leg pain. I had two major spine surgeries with neurosurgery for this pain which ultimately made my symptoms worse. I became addicted to medications because of my pain. I was unable to function and spent most of my time sitting which was hell. I'm not a person that is usually depressed but I went down hill because of the pain. The chronic pain took its toll on me over the years. It took away my lifestyle. I continued to cut out the things I enjoy. I was going to the Twin Cities to a pain clinic for medication. I was told by another pain doctor to put a pain pump in because I had pain. My neurosurgeon told me there was nothing else they could do. I was ultimately directed to IPPMC for another opinion. Since being evaluated at IPPMC in a short time I am 80% better. I have decreased my pain medications and my goal is to completely eliminate them. When my pain is better I don't need the pain medications. Other groups kept on pushing pills down my throat as the answer for my pain. Dr. K, rather than pushing a prescription on me, took time to evaluate and figure out where my pain was coming from. I feel like a whole new person at this time. I feel like a lot of the weight off my shoulder has been lifted and I have improved quality of life. I am enjoying life. After all the places I have been IPPMC is the only one that has helped significantly. Thank you."

"I was in a lot of pain, my activities were to a point where I was not able to take a bath or do hardly anything including housework. After I had my permanent stimulator placed I was 100% improved. I am able to walk, take care of myself, clean my house and even went camping since the permanent placement. IPPMC was great in my preparation and placement of my stimulator."
